During the 2024-2025 academic year, the State of Oregon enacted rules to keep all majors level chemistry classes taught at public institutions equivalent... and after considerable discussion, the CH221Z / CH227Z system was born.

At Mt. Hood Community College, we combine CH221Z (the 'lecture' portion) and CH227Z (the 'lab' portion) into a single class with a single grade to avoid student confusion.

I will refer to both CH221Z and CH227Z as simply 'CH221' or 'Chemistry 221'.
