Greetings Chemistry 151!

I am very pleased to have you in my CH 151 class this quarter, and I look forward to a productive term with you. Please let me know if you have any questions, ok?

Items due on Wednesday, June 29 by 11:59 PM via email:

Items due on Friday, July 1 by 9 AM via email:

In this section we will begin to explore chemistry and what it means to become a chemist. Without the proper tools, no work can be done; and the techniques we will study in this section (significant figures, dimensional analysis, scientific notation, the metric system, the periodic table, etc.) will help us all through this class and beyond.

Here's what is due during week 1 of CH 151:

  • Explore the material in Chapter 1 and Chapter 2. There are several tools to help you learn the material.... they include:
  • Due Wednesday, June 29 by 11:59 PM: The "Introduce Yourself" Lab.
    • Download the lab using this link.
    • To complete the lab, create a video of yourself on YouTube or Vimeo using your phone or computer (it will be free to create your video.) I want to know who you are, what you like, what you look like, why you are taking this class, etc.... no one else has to see it but me (you can make it unlisted on YouTube if you'd like), then send me the link via email.
    • Also complete and email the one page Memorandum in the Introduce Yourself lab to me.
    • Email the completed Memorandum handout and a link to your video to the instructor.
  • Due Friday, July 1 by 9 AM: Quiz #1.
    • Quizzes will be released Wednesday evening, and completed quizzes should be emailed to the instructor.
    • Please do not ask the Tutoring Center / LSC for assistance on this assignment.... this quiz is for you to accomplish on your own.
    • Sample Quiz #1 (answers) might prove helpful while preparing for this quiz.

Here's a preview of what's going to be happening during Week #2:

  • Explore the material in Chapter 2 and Chapter 3. There are several tools to help you learn the material.... they include:
  • Due Wednesday, July 6 by 11:59 PM: Problem Set #2
  • Due Wednesday, July 6 by 11:59 PM: The Nomenclature Lab
  • Due Friday, July 8 at 9 AM: Quiz #2
  • Due Friday, July 8 at 9 AM: The Density Lab
  • The Midterm Exam will be released on Friday July 8, and it will be due by 11:59 PM on Sunday, July 10.

I wish you the best during the new quarter, and let me know if you have any questions. Peace, --- Michael
