Fusion Engineer Questions
Time to do some Research:
Your job is to explain the process of nuclear fusion and determine its current feasibility. You also wish to convince the City of Springfield that fusion is the preferred choice of nuclear power over fission.
Questions the Fusion Engineering Member Must Consider:
Status Report
- Explain the basic idea of how nuclear fusion works.
- Explain the basic structure of a nuclear power plant.
- Why is nuclear fusion "better" than fission?
- Why don't we have fusion plants yet?
- Explain the basic safety measures that guard us against accidents.
- Present a time line on the future prospects of nuclear fusion.
Value Assessment
- What public values or beliefs underlie nuclear power and might create a bias one way or the other on the importance of nuclear power in the U.S.? How will this affect society's (and the City of Springfield's) acceptance of fusion?
Action Plan
You must now present your Special Report to the Web Quest Team in the form of a brief informational summary of your findings. Create a detailed, 4 step, process on how the town should proceed. Remember, not everyone understands nuclear fusion and there exists many misconceptions about it.
Good Luck. The fusion development company is counting on you!
